Portreath Trail 2 - Cliff Walk Trail

This trail goes up over Battery Hill to the south of the port. The trail goes up and down and twists and turns along part of the Coastal Path and on a good day has some of the best views along the north Cornish coast. The path then cuts off inland and down a break between two fields towards some barns: a left here leads you towards Tehidy Woods.

In the northern part of the woods there is an ancient earthwork, whilst in Oak Wood earth banks that were once field boundaries can still be seen. The Basset family obtained the manor house in the middle of the 12th century. Converted later to Tehidy Hospital (sometimes referred to as Tehidy Sanatorium), it was an isolation hospital for patients with tuberculosis, but in later years also dealt with patients who had strokes, head injuries and various respiratory disorders.

Over the years most of the wards closed and finally the hospital shut completely in April 1988, and has now been converted into luxury apartments. Several new luxury houses have also been built around the former hospital buildings. There is no public right of way through this section of the park.

The trail takes you back to Portreath alongside the golf course and then down into the village itself.
