Camborne Trails

Camborne is the home of Richard Trevithick, pioneer steam inventor who famously developed the first ever successful road vehicle, known as ‘the puffing devil’. Now a thriving and vibrant town, Camborne boasts many architectural gems and historic buildings as well as attractive shops and businesses, good pubs and places to stay. It is very well served by public transport and there is a produce market every Friday.

Once at the heart of the industrial revolution and heavy rock mining industries, many of the areas which were affected by the mining industry have been sensitively regenerated so that they have once again become wildlife havens with public access. Engine houses abound and the parish is criss-crossed with a myriad of paths and tracts of public land. A prime example of this restoration is shown at Tuckingmill Valley Park on the outskirts of Camborne, part of the Red River Valley.

Included below you will find trails which include Richard Trevithick’s birthplace and some of the best features and heritage landscapes that have contributed to a designation as a World Heritage Site. Significant buildings relating to the mining industry have been restored and we are home to the King Edward Mine Museum, part of the wider ‘great flat Lode trail.

The trails cover a variety of the diverse landscapes of this historic town and it’s setting. There are villages to explore, woodland, farmland, mining landscapes and features, 2 nature reserves, parks and coastal walks. Welcome to Camborne.

Our easy trails are not only over gentle ground but are also not too long. As a rule of thumb, easy trails should allow you to push a wheelchair around quite comfortably.

Moderate trails are those that are over tougher terrain but not too difficult. They are also not usually up steep hills or too long in distance. As a marker we have estimated that they would be fine for mum, dad and two children.

The tough trails are generally over a much harder terrain - obviously we are not talking cross country but certainly the ground is rocky, goes up very steep inclines and these trails are a lot longer.
