This trail starts in the centre of the village which is an excellent place to stock up with provisions for a picnic on the hill.

The trail turns out of the village and you quickly find yourself entering the countryside. The route is quite steep so might not be overly family friendly for young children.

Once you leave the road behind and hit the tracks you start to climb Carn Marth passing the amphitheatre on your left and Figgy Dowdy’s well on your right. At the top of the carn you will find a flooded disused quarry and beyond it the granite face is peppered with holes where mining drills were tested before being exported around the world.

The view from the top of Carn Marth is outstanding when the weather is good and there is a diorama that tells you all the points you are looking at – from the north coast of Cornwall to the south coast.

From here the trail takes you further up and through off round the hillside before switch-backing on itself as it slowly descends the hill back towards the village.
